Will You Let Me Go?

***Disclaimer: I got this idea from Pinterest, an exercise where you write a 20 word sentence, then a 19 word sentence, and so on, ending the story with one word.***

This 20 Sentence Story is inspired by Phantom of the Opera

My late and beloved father used to tell me the most wonderful tale, a tale about an angel of music.

When he passed the story died with him, and now I fear I don’t know myself when I sing.

That was until the day the angel found me at the opera, in the depths of my despair.

He sang to me so beautifully, making me believe that I could find my muse once more.

And that is what the angel of music has done, the mysterious phantom in the mirror.

My father’s spirit sings to me, and music fills my soul with joy once again.

But, alas, the angel was not what he seemed, the cruel demon in shadow.

He’s a monster we created, and he is determined to make me shine.

I am now beloved by all, yet I suffer a great curse.

He demands I renounce my true love, to be his forevermore.

For it is my penance, my debt for his gifts.

He asks of me what Raoul will always have.

My heart can never truly be the phantom’s.

Not since I learned the bitter truth.

For in him, there is darkness.

Forever a thing to me.

Not my guardian angel.

Nor my phantom.

Release me.

Monster.
